Biography:
Finding my accordion again
I was born in France and brought up the French way — young children were not
allowed to run around freely then — and the educational system was strict
and traditional, lots of sitting and listening. It is no wonder that by the
time I became an adult my thoracic cage had become rigid and that I did not
even know it. Neck painful? “tight” said the osteopath, but I could not
sense this. Through Feldenkrais classes for some years and eventually the
training, I was able to reconnect with flexibility, especially in the
ribcage which. I now regard as an accordion.
The Method infuses all I do from teaching French to University students and
businessmen to learning new skills. I find I can apply it to every aspect of
my life and in doing so I breathe more easily. I try to communicate this to
my Feldenkrais students while always keeping it in mind that it is up to
them to take on board what they want and at their own pace.
