During International Feldenkrais Week, you’re invited to explore a gentle, awareness-based approach to movement — at your own pace, in your own time.
This year’s theme is ‘Unpacking Posture’. Each day, we will share a guided Awareness Through Movement® recording. These lessons are easy to follow, suitable for all levels and designed to be done at home. They offer a practical introduction to the Feldenkrais Method and help you begin to notice how you move.
Look out for articles and other events about International Feldenkrais Week on the Guild’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
During this week Feldenkrais UK is also sponsoring practitioners who are offering free or reduced cost Introductory Feldenkrais workshops. These will be taking place in different locations around the country, as well as online. Everyone is welcome!

Being upright can be hard work, even if you don’t have “bad posture”. Our muscles tense to hold us up in our own unique way. We tire and may want to sit or lie down as our back or neck starts to hurt. Everyday tasks may become real chores.
This Feldenkrais workshop will help create a more efficient bodily organization, reducing the effort required of your muscles by having your skeleton carry your weight. Being upright can then become almost effortless, freeing up energy and creating a sense of lightness

The Feldenkrais Workshop on Wednesday 13 May at 10:30am is for stroke sufferers to help with posture and movement. The Feldenkrais Method helps stroke sufferers regain function by using gentle, mindful movement to leverage neuroplasticity, allowing the brain to reorganize and form new neural connections. It improves mobility, balance, and coordination by reducing reliance on the unaffected side, easing spasticity, and creating more efficient, painless movement pattern.

Do you think that if you could improve or correct your posture, your neck or back pain might disappear – or your shoulders might feel less tight? That if you could just sit or stand the “right” way, you would feel comfortable and pain-free?
Many of us have been taught to think about posture in this way. But people with a seemingly “perfect” posture can still experience pain, tension and stiffness. If you try to improve your posture by pulling your shoulders back, straightening your spine, tightening your stomach or clenching your buttocks, you may come close to a shape of an anatomy book illustration – but probably not to a feeling of comfort, ease or aliveness in your body.
Moshe Feldenkrais introduced the term “acture” – to describe posture in action – a dynamic, responsive way of organising ourselves for movement. Good “acture” allows us to move in any direction without prior preparation, with minimum effort and maximum efficiency, and more freedom to adapt.
In this workshop, we will explore gentle movement lessons with a hint of playfulness and a generous amount of mindfulness to help you discover a posture that feels more easeful, comfortable, supported and alive.

Standing upright is uniquely human. It takes anything from 9 to 15 months to learn how to stand upright without support. Then we tend to take standing for granted.
In standing, we want to look for a dynamic posture – one from which we can move in any direction without the need for preparatory adjustments. To achieve this, the extensor and flexor muscles need to work in co-ordination and harmony together.
Throughout a lifetime, often starting from a very young age, a slightly more flexed, rounded posture often takes over as the flexor muscles pull us a little bit down – something which comes from too much sitting, looking at screens, stress, tiredness. Movement in the ribs, spine, hips & pelvis can reduce, often without us knowing it.
This workshop will look at how we can counteract this, from the feet to the head, begin to engage the extensors and bring movement back to areas which might be a bit sleepy. The result will be a better, dynamic posture and a freeing up of joints.
