Emma Alter

London, emalter@fastmail.fm

“Mentoring is working together with someone further along the path, who has your back, who believes in you, even at the times when you might not believe in yourself. I want to create a safe space to ask questions, and work together to find useful answers for you to create a successful practice, (whatever that means for you), in your way, with your goals and ideas at heart.”

“With every passing year my Feldenkrais work becomes more inspiring and my life becomes more satisfying – I would love to support other practitioners in achieving the same level of excitement, engagement, and job satisfaction that I experience in this profession.”

Areas of interest: I am interested in everything! I specialise in voice work, exploring the senses, self-calming techniques, and am developing an advance training for sphincters and diaphragms. I firmly believe that Feldenkrais is ahead of the curve in every area of modern life and I hope to convince everyone else of that fact!

East of England, Scotland, freedomtomove@outlook.com

“Whilst it is always a question of building a personal approach to the work, there is great value in discussing, openly and privately, the shape of your understanding of your job as a Practitioner. The Feldenkrais Method has a unique set of fascinating uncertainties and stumbling blocks baked into it for someone who is just starting out, not the least of which is how to ‘mould’ a way forward based on the skillsets you already have and the range of ambitions that brought you to the Method in the first place.”

Areas of interest: My practice grows out of 37 years in the fields of performing arts and arts education, allied to my 25 years as a certified Feldenkrais Practitioner. I have built my practice out of series of alliances with different organisations, providing a range of different ways into somatic exploration. I am adept at tailoring my practice to suit this breadth of potential. How do we tease out what it is that we offer and how might we configure that offer? What is your individual voice, and how might it call out to those who might benefit from it?

“In my personal experience of almost 20 years as a Feldenkrais Practitioner, it has been vital to have regular supervision/mentoring where I can reflect on how my practice is running with someone more experienced than me, and the best support has always come through people who are themselves Feldenkrais practitioners, who can understand the unique issues we face in a profession that is still relatively little-known, and, differs so widely from the many other types of body/mind therapy out there. Being able to talk about how I feel about my practice, and my relationships with my various clients in a confidential space just for me has been vital.”

Areas of interest: Firstly, newer practitioners who have never run their own practice before, since I was once one myself – when I started in 2004 I’d not even lived in the UK for 20 years either, so I hardly knew anyone. Secondly, helping practitioners to work through emotional/communication issues with clients/students – since I am also trained as a Holistic Counsellor.  Thirdly, with practitioners who live and work alongside chronic health issues, like I do.

Caroline Scott

North of England, feldenkraisyorkshire@gmail.com

As a mentor, it’s important to me that practitioners have a space to bring questions and concerns about working with clients in either an FI or class ATM context, and that this space can be for reflection on what is working well as well as addressing the challenges and sticking points from a new perspective. I’m particularly interested in the transition from graduation to getting going and maintaining a practice.”

Victoria Worsley

London, vicmworsley@gmail.com

“For the first few years after I graduated I was so grateful I had an excellent mentor who gave me the space to set the agenda so I could ask the questions and discuss the issues that were coming up in my new practice. I hope I can be that kind of support too.”

Areas of interest: Some people know me for acting and running/sports but actually I have a very wide-ranging general practice that includes eg. neurological issues, chronic pain and some kinds of trauma.
